The Grand Prairie Independent School District is mourning the loss of longtime educator and Board Member Nancy Bridges, whose recent passing marks the end of more than 40 years of devoted service to public education and the GPISD community.
Nancy Bridges began her career with GPISD in 1977 as a classroom teacher, setting the foundation for a lifetime dedicated to student success and district leadership. Over the decades, she served in numerous roles that reflected both her expertise and commitment, including assistant principal, principal, director, and eventually Deputy Superintendent of Business Operations, a position she held until her retirement in June 2019.
Her passion for education extended beyond GPISD. Nancy also contributed to the development of future educators as an adjunct professor at the University of Texas at Arlington and as a supervisor for student teachers at Dallas Baptist University, sharing her knowledge and mentorship with the next generation.
Even after retirement, her commitment to the district never wavered. In June 2023, Nancy was elected to the GPISD Board of Trustees, where she served as Board Secretary at the time of her passing. District leaders and colleagues remember her as a steady presence whose insight and dedication helped guide important decisions.
GPISD Board President Amber Moffitt reflected on the loss, noting that the district is deeply grateful for Nancy’s decades of service and that she will be profoundly missed.
Nancy Bridges leaves behind a lasting legacy of leadership, mentorship, and unwavering dedication to education. The GPISD community extends heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched. Funeral arrangements will be announced at a later date.
