
SADDLE LAKE, Alberta — The Saddle Lake community is mourning the loss of Dennis Gordon Steinhauer, a devoted husband, father, and valued member of the community, who passed away peacefully at his home on February 4, 2026, at the age of 59. Dennis’s passing leaves a profound void in the lives of his family, friends, and all who knew him.
Known for his quiet strength, humility, and unwavering dedication to his loved ones, Dennis shared a life filled with love and partnership with his wife, Bernadine. Together, they raised three sons—Bradley (Khaysah), Dylan, and Darian—who remember their father as a source of guidance, encouragement, and unconditional support. Dennis also took immense pride and joy in his role as a grandfather, treasuring the moments he spent with his grandchildren.
Family remained at the center of Dennis’s life. He is fondly remembered by his siblings, Evelyn Steinhauer (Jim Cardinal), Linda Steinhauer, and Kevin (Eva) Steinhauer, as well as his mother-in-law, Lorraine Houle. Dennis’s loyal companion, Geo, was a constant presence by his side, reflecting the deep bond he shared with those closest to him. Friends, extended relatives, nieces, and nephews also recall his kindness, generosity, and steady presence.
Dennis was predeceased by his parents, Archie and Nancy Steinhauer; his brother, Ron Steinhauer; his father-in-law, Eugene Houle; and his grandparents Gus and Sarah Steinhauer and Steve and Alice Whitford. Though he is now reunited with them, Dennis’s legacy lives on through the love he shared and the values he instilled in his family.
A wake will be held on Wednesday, February 11, departing from Grace Gardens at 2:00 p.m., at the Ayiwakes Cultural Centre in Saddle Lake. The funeral service will take place on Thursday, February 12, at 11:00 a.m., followed by interment at the United Church Cemetery in Saddle Lake.
