Jaxen Ragland Pinson, AL Obituary, Death; Pinson Community Mourns 10-Year-Old Jaxen Ragland, Whose Brave Cancer Fight Inspired Thousands

Jaxen Pinson, Alabama
Jaxen Ragland, a 10-year-old boy from Pinson, Alabama, whose courage in the face of a devastating illness touched thousands, passed away Monday night, February 9, 2026, at Children’s of Alabama. He died surrounded by love, held closely by his mother, after battling metastatic adrenal gland cancer.

Jaxen, who was autistic and non-verbal, faced his illness with extraordinary strength. Despite aggressive treatments and declining health, family members say he continued to show warmth and comfort, often through his unforgettable “Jaxen smile,” which became a symbol of hope for those following his journey.

His mother, Randa McCall, shared that one of her most cherished photos of Jaxen was taken just weeks before his passing. Wrapped in a blanket and resting beside her, he appeared calm and secure, cared for by doctors and nurses who had become an extension of their family.

McCall remained with Jaxen through his final moments, saying he passed at 8:48 p.m. after she gently told him it was okay to rest.

She described a sense of peace that came over him as she held him tightly, expressing her love and sorrow as he slipped away.

After his passing, McCall and Jaxen’s father bathed his body one final time while she softly sang “You Are My Sunshine,” a song that had brought him comfort throughout his life.

Children’s of Alabama, where Jaxen spent much of his final journey, became a place of compassion and support for the family. In a message shared afterward, McCall expressed the heartbreak of having to leave her son behind.

Jaxen’s death has prompted an outpouring of grief and support from the Pinson community and from supporters known as “Jaxen’s Army,” who followed his fight and lifted the family in prayer.

Jaxen Ragland is remembered as a gentle child, a fierce fighter, and a bright light to many — a “little mighty soldier” whose battle ended far too soon.

Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced. The family has asked for continued prayers and support as they grieve the loss of their beloved son.
