SYKESVILLE, PA — The Jefferson County Coroner has identified Eugene C. Cyphert Sr., 71, as the victim of a fatal house fire that occurred Monday morning at 147 S. Park Street. Cyphert, the sole occupant of the home, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Sykesville Fire Department received the emergency call at 7:24 a.m. and arrived to find the residence fully engulfed in smoke. Firefighters quickly removed Cyphert from the home within eight minutes of dispatch, but he was pronounced deceased at 7:43 a.m. Flames were brought under control in under 30 minutes thanks to a combined effort from Sykesville Fire Department and neighboring companies, including Reynoldsville, Big Run, Brady Township, West Sandy, and Fourth Ward Hose Co. Sykesville Ambulance also responded.
Authorities confirmed no other injuries occurred, but the home was declared a total loss. The Pennsylvania State Police fire marshal is investigating the cause of the fire, though officials currently report “nothing suspicious” surrounding the incident.
