A stretch of the A19 was brought to a standstill on Monday morning following a serious collision involving a pedestrian and a vehicle.
North East Ambulance Service confirmed crews were dispatched to Fleet Bridge Road shortly after 07:00 GMT. Cleveland Police later closed the carriageway in both directions between Portrack and the A139 at Billingham Bottoms to allow emergency services to work at the scene.
The closure triggered significant delays across surrounding routes, with traffic backing up during the morning rush hour. Police warned the disruption was likely to continue for some time and advised motorists to avoid the area and seek alternative routes while the incident is dealt with.
