A shooting in Kenosha on the evening of February 4 left one teenager dead and two others injured, prompting grief across the community and an ongoing police investigation.
Officers were dispatched to the 600 block of 60th Street around 7:55 p.m. after receiving reports of multiple people being shot. At the scene, police found a 16-year-old boy who had suffered fatal gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the location and later identified by family members as Isiah Cooper.
Two additional victims were taken to a hospital for treatment. A 19-year-old man sustained a gunshot wound, while a 15-year-old boy was hospitalized with a head injury. Their current conditions have not been released.
Isiah’s mother, Tashea Cooper, spoke publicly about the devastating loss of her son, describing him as a caring, family-oriented teenager who enjoyed football, video games, and spending time close to home. She said the shock of his death has been overwhelming, particularly when passing by his bedroom.
Police confirmed that a 16-year-old boy and a 19-year-old man were taken into custody at a nearby residence as part of the investigation. Authorities said the individuals are being held pending potential charges and emphasized that the incident appears to be isolated, with no continuing threat to the public.
All three victims attend schools within the Kenosha Unified School District. Isiah was a student at Bradford High School, while the two injured victims attend Indian Trail High School. District officials announced that grief counseling and support services will be offered to students and staff affected by the shooting.
In the wake of her son’s death, Tashea Cooper has started a GoFundMe campaign to help cover legal costs as she seeks justice. In the fundraiser, she stated that her goal is accountability and pursuing the case to the fullest extent of the law.
The shooting has shaken the Kenosha community, with residents mourning the loss of a young life and calling for answers. Police said the investigation remains active, and more information is expected to be released as it becomes available.
