Chicago Ridge, Illinois, is grieving the sudden loss of Luke M. Martin, 34, who passed away on February 3, 2026. Luke is remembered for his dedication to family, community, and his profession, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew him.
Born on February 12, 1991, Luke was the beloved son of Patricia (née Hagan) and the late Michael Martin. He was a cherished brother to Chaeli Martin (Joseph Busking) and Samantha (Matthew) Wirta, a devoted fiancé to Rachel Herman, and a proud uncle to Rocco Autullo and Graham Wirta. In addition to his immediate family, Luke is survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and close friends who held him dear.
Professionally, Luke was a respected member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 150, where colleagues admired his strong work ethic, reliability, and friendly nature. Union members remember him as someone always ready to lend support and committed to his craft.
Family and friends gathered to honor Luke’s life with a visitation on Friday, February 6, at St. Rita of Cascia Shrine Chapel in Chicago. A funeral Mass followed on Saturday, February 7, at the same chapel, with interment held privately.
In lieu of flowers, the family requested donations be made to the Tom Hopkins Foundation, a cause close to Luke and his loved ones. Remembered for his warmth, loyalty, and the joy he brought into the lives of those around him, Luke’s legacy will live on in the countless lives he touched.
