Council Bluffs, Iowa — The community is mourning the loss of Kelly Dix, a former standout basketball player, devoted wife and mother, and a woman remembered for her warmth, resilience, and unwavering spirit. Kelly passed away following a courageous battle with cancer, a journey she faced with strength, grace, and a smile that never seemed to fade.
Those who knew Kelly describe her as someone whose kindness was instinctive and sincere. A lifelong connection with friends and coworkers stretched from childhood through adulthood, rooted in shared family ties and years spent working side by side. Whether at work, in the community, or among friends, Kelly’s presence brought laughter and authenticity.
One story often shared captures her joyful personality — a bowling outing where a misthrown ball rolled backward instead of down the lane, sending the group into laughter. Moments like that reflected who Kelly was: genuine, lighthearted, and full of life.
Even during her illness, Kelly continued to put others first. Friends recall running into her unexpectedly during hospital visits, where despite her own struggles, she took time to check in on others. That quiet compassion left a lasting impression on everyone she encountered.
A lifelong basketball fan and proud Creighton supporter, Kelly remained deeply connected to the sport she loved. She was a familiar face at Creighton games, cheering from the stands no matter how challenging her health became. Her determination and positivity stood as a powerful example of perseverance.
Kelly leaves behind her husband and four children, who now carry forward her legacy of love, strength, and selflessness. In her honor, Creighton University will recognize Kelly with a moment of silence during its upcoming game against Seton Hall, following the school’s recent Pink Out event supporting cancer awareness.
While her passing leaves an undeniable void, Kelly Dix’s life continues to resonate through the many people she touched. She is remembered not only for her achievements, but for her heart — a legacy that will endure far beyond the court.
