
Chicago police are investigating a fatal shooting that claimed the life of Gabryel Ayres following a violent attack on the city’s South Side. The investigation was opened on February 4, 2026, as detectives work to identify those responsible and determine what led to the deadly encounter.
The shooting occurred near 79th Street, where video circulating on social media appears to show four armed individuals opening fire on a white vehicle. Authorities said the vehicle was struck by multiple bullets and, moments later, crashed into a nearby van.
Police confirmed that Gabryel Ayres, who was inside the white car, was shot during the attack and pronounced dead. A man who was also in the vehicle sustained gunshot wounds and remains in critical condition. Investigators said a child was reportedly inside the car at the time of the shooting but was not injured.
Witnesses told officers that an SUV pulled alongside the white vehicle shortly before gunfire erupted. After the shooting, the suspects fled the area, leaving behind a chaotic and tragic scene.
