Dr. Udekwu, who practiced at UPMC CCP, devoted her career to the health and well-being of her patients, earning widespread admiration for her compassion, expertise, and unwavering commitment. Born in Nigeria, she earned her medical degree from the University of Nigeria before completing her residency at UPMC Mercy.
She later established her pediatric practice in Pittsburgh’s Uptown neighborhood, where families quickly recognized her warmth, patience, and personalized approach to care. Dr. Udekwu was known for treating each child as if they were her own, combining clinical excellence with a genuine personal connection that set her apart.
Her contributions extended beyond the clinic. Dr. Udekwu mentored young professionals, participated in community health initiatives, and consistently advocated for the well-being of children. In recognition of her impact, former Mayor Ed Gainey proclaimed September 25, 2024, as Dr. Catherine Udekwu Day, honoring her service and influence in the Pittsburgh community.
